NEW pakkim; hylaw $5.00 $7.50 K... $L40 KbK o an 98 86 , .15 P Tuesday, July 2G, 1927 CENT A POUND MEANS MUCH Possibly the people of Prince Ilupert do not just realize what it means: to the fishermen ,if the price of halibut goes up. On a four man boat with a catch of ten thousand pounds an addition of a cent af-'p'ound meanfe $100 more for the catch' or $23 for each fish erman or thereabouts. Is it any wonder that the fishermen scan so eagerly the halibut sale list as published in this paper and that merchants and others also take a keen interest in the prices paid. Doubtless the police will use reasonable discretion in enforce ing the parking bylaw. The object seems to have been to prevent people on a sixteen foot road using it for permanent parking instead of building a garage or making a parking platform on their own premises. The general purpose is a laudable one but it may be en forced in such a manner as to prove objectionable. If a visitor calls at a house and happens to stay half an hour after midnight, it would be an unreasonable thing to fine him for so doing. If it is right for a visitor to leave a car standing outside a home at half past eleven it is just as right for it to be left there half an hour after midnight except for an arbitrary bylaw. However, it is supposed that this is pot the purpose of the enactment but that it is to pre vent permanent parking and to give the police the right to prevent it. .We fancy it might be a good thing for the police or for the mayor to make an announcement as to just what is intended to be implied. If it is just one of those fussy bylaws made to annoy people, the quicker it is repealed the better, but we hardly think that Those who are always - crying, out against the methods at present adopted by denuding the country of its timber, might reflect that if the timber supply were less the Sunday newspapers would have to be smaller, and what an advantage that would be. TEETH AND HEALTH (Vancouver Sun) Members of the Washington State Dental Association, meeting this week in Seattle, are handing out some advice to the public that can be received just as profitably in Vancouver as acress the line. These dentists say that the teeth are the most neglected part of the human body. If we do not see well, we have our eyes looked after. If we arfe easily tired and feel languid, we usually find out the. trouble. But until our teeth break out in open rebellion, we pay little or no attention to them. Decaying teeth are hot6edsof disease. They generate poisons that pollute the entire body, resulting in protracted sickness or even death. Periodical dental Inspection is one of the big factors in keep ing well. It's not necessary to go to the Orient. All that is necessary is to visit Cow Bay and -you can share horrid smells right at home. It might be a good thing to adyer- Use this as an attraction to tourists. JAP INLET SUCCESS With a tojal of 403 marks Ifuth Corbould'of Jap "Inlet school takes secon dplace in Prince Rupert Centre in the recent High School entrance examinations. Her marks are only thirty below those scored by the leading pupil of the province. Ruth's success brilliantly justifies the struggle of the Jap In let residents to obtain a teacher, and to erect by combined labor, a new school for their children.. Buth is the teacher's eldest daughter and her success is also an example of what sound teaching combined ' with loving home interest can do for a pupil. We must all take off - our hats to the pupil, the teacher, and the unselfish labor of the fishermen of Jap Inlet.
