Colt, a mining engineer. In an article on "The Sliver Mining Industry In Canada" deals Inci dentally with the Premier mine-at Stew art. He tella of the geological formations and then goes on to say: The mineralisation ts divided Into two phases, one of primary (hypogene) origin and the other of secondary (super-gene) origin. The primary phase con sists of pyrlte. galena, sine blende, and a small amount of chalcopyrtte. and carries gold and silver values. It Is accompanied by a sub-phase of barren pyrlte. The last phase of the Igneous antlvltv tnnV r1e. ftiihoAmient tA fhp primary mineralization, and consisted ol Intrusion by lamprophyre dikes. After a period of uplift and erosion, secondary enrichment took place. This consisted of sulph-antlmonldes of sllvet and of native silver. Silver values were greatly, and gold values slightly. Increased. In the enriched zone. The property Is equipped with a modern mining plant. Both hydro-electric and seml-dlesel power Is used. The mill as originally Installed, used a combination of gravity flotation and eyanlde treatment. All grinding and flotation was performed In cyanide solution. In the early part of 1926, additions to the mUl were completed which brought the milling capacity up to 400 j tons dally. Under the present milling system, a very clean table concentrate Is made, and from the slimes and re- ground tsble-tslllings a flotation concentrate U ifeuovered, tjius producing a final tailing so low In value that cyan- ldlng, with Its attendant expense, has been rendered unnecessary. First-class ore Is shipped to the Ta- coma smelter and second-class slliclous ore to the Granby smelter ,at Anyox. Mill concentrates are also shipped to the Tacoma smelter. Present development seems to Indicate that the bottom of the profitable horizon lies 100 feet above the fifth level, or 160 feet below the fourth level. The total earnings for 1926, before de ducting administration expense, taxes. depreciation, and ore depletion, were S2.2U.490, or $198,008 more than In the year 1929. These were the highest earn-J ings in the mine's history. ' The estimated ore reserves as at Decem ber 31, 1926, are as follows: Ore broken In stopes, 337,087 tons, averaging 0.54 ounces gold and 13.32 ounces silver per ton. Assured and probable unbroken .'ore down to the fifth level of the present mine workings, 461.182 tons, averaging u.u ounces 'kqiq, ana o.oy ounces,si ' cer ton. Vr ,' ; ' -i The total '&( .the above estimates' of broken and unbroken ore reserves, down to the fifth level of the present mine workings, is 798269 tons, averaging 0.48 ounces gold and 9.60 ounces silver per ton. The Premier Gold Mining Company has declared a dividend of 1400,000. or at the rate of 32 per cent per annum, cover lng operations during the first quar ter of 1927, bringing the total disbursement up to 110,250,375. The company has now returned to Its shareholders their capital and 104 per cent interest. DELAYED BLAST STRUCK MINERS NEAR STEWART Particulars of the death of Leonard Klemola and the Injuring of his partner, B, Perovltch, by a delayed shot in the Riverside mine near Stewart Is conveyed In a report given in the Portland Canala News, which says: Leonard Klemola, miner at the River side, was fatally Injured and his shift partner, B. 'Perovlch, suffered severe lacerations of the throat and .chest, when they jsere caught by a delayed blast in the face of the 400-foot level where they were working. They had fired a round of shots and counted one hole missing. They waited 15 minutes (instead of the full hour which Is a rule laid down by the management) and then went in to Investigate, evidently reaching the face of the drift Just as the delayed charge exploded. This was at 11 o'clock Tuesday night. i Men from another part of the mine carried them out and rendered such first aid as was possible, then rushed them over to the Stewart Hospital where they were attended by Dr. Whlllans who called Dr. Carson, of Premier Into consultation. ' It was at once realized that the condition of Klemola was desperate and that If It was possible to save his life he would at the best lose his right leg. which was terribly mangled and the bone shattered throughout its length.
