Although it has from 20,000 to 25 000 students, it has no buildings, no campus, no stadium and no degrees to offer. Yet it is doing a work no other college or university can do and is performing a sen-ice of inestimable value to its thousands of students and the Dominion. u 1 RELIEF WORK IS DISCUSSED CITY lot NTH. Ill-XII.KS NOT TO 1 roiJ.Kcr pom, tax kkommkn I m r.Mri.uvKii jf ! The question of relief work came before the city council last night when Alderman Brown stated that he hao jbeen Informed that married men em-ployed on such work had been given four days a week and single men two days. He had also been Informed that, the poll tax had been deducted from these men on this work. He moved that in future the poll tax be not collected from men cn relief work. In the discussion .following, the members of the council agreed that It was unwise to a.Tord relief work and then1 i deduct the tax and It was finally decided that this should be refunded I to those who had already paid and. In future the tax would not be collected. Alderman Stephens Inquired as to how long the relief work would last and how soon work would be started on Summit Avenue and other projects. He" felt that those employed on this work should be selected very carefully and he aeked the council to approve of' having the list of names presented to the council'. It waa later suggested that the names were available for any alderman who ctrcd, to ask the city engineer. Alder- Tuesday, March 1, 1927, man Stephens said that he was satisfied If he could obtain the Information 'In this manner. Several members of the council spoke, on the matter and lt was Intimated that It was Intended to close relief work down as soon as anything else started i UD.
