NEW ENGINE IS LARGEST CANADIAN IIIILT AMI CANADIAN dkmjm:i i.ocoviourr. m;uiN OPERATIONS KINGSTON, Ont, June 3. The lar- gest engine in the British Empire made Its first run yesterday afternoon, built by the Canadian Locomotive Co. of Kingston for tbo. Canadian National Railways. It waa completed at seven o'clock yesterday morning and by noon was ready for the trial trip. While the Canadian National- system had previously held an empire record for the targest passenger and freight engines respectively. It remained for the en- glr.ecrs to design a new type of locomotive which iufpasscs all, previous motive power both tot weight, length and hauling capacity. This new engine, which Is known as the 6100 type Is a triumph for Canadian designers: Previously Canadian locomotives, more or 1jn, have been designed after United 8tates types, and as such motive power as the "Mountain and Santa Fe" types which the National Railways brought out and which to that time proved to be the largest engine operating under the British flag, were modifications of American designs and consequently were designated by well known In designing the new 8100 type locos, however. Canadian National engineers have pioneered the road to an entirely new type of steam engine and It Is named the "Northern" which Is representative of the country from which It has been developed. The new locomotive with Under weighs 326 tons which is greater than the 4100 type of freight loonmotlvr mnreded to be the biggest engine having an overall measurement of 94 feet six Inches, this Is longer than the biggest engine yet developed In Canada, WEATHER REPORT Prince Rupert Jart cloudy, calm, temperature 62.
