AH the citizens are uniting for the purpose and one of them is right on the ground at Washington taking the matter up with the Federal authorities. That is the way to get something. Unity is necessary. Ketchikan is not as big a place as Prince Rupert, but it has faith in the city and enough ginger to get out and make itself heard. The probability is, it will have a Fed eral building before Prince Kupert. District News TEKKACB J. Hillyajjjl, sr. left otfhurii&a for Dorreei where he' expect to locate. A,C - E. T. Cameroa mining men of Stewart, have been spending a few days in the district and oa. Saturday triad a Now that Olof Hanson has been chosen bv local Lib-1 11 p we mining prospects ar erals as their stanilaru bearer, it is to be hoped he will be one of the leaders in the movement to secure a new post office for Prince Rupert. Doubtless other sections of the riding will be tfsking for appropriations, but this is one thing the need of which is apparent to everyone. AIR LINES UP THE COAST Yesterday another despatch came over the wire telling of the plans to inaugurate an air service between Seattle and Alaska. It is altogether probable that any line to Alaska would make a call at Prince Rupert, unless there should be an all-Canadian service to this city and to Port land Canal. Eventually this will come. In the meantime, . we must look for abortive efforts. RURAL SCHOOLS A proposal has been made in Alberta for tbe government to take over the control of the rural schools, levying a general school tax. rate and paying the salaries 01 the teachers. This because of the inefficient manner in which the'schools are handled at present. In many parts of British Columbia the same may be said of the schools. It looks to the trustees as if the teachers were getting a lot of money. They lack perspective. We are strongly of the opinion that better results might be obtained if less power were placed in the hands of local authorities in regard to the conduct of education. People without any education cannot be expected to sympathize with educational efforts. SAFETY OX STREETS The problem of safety on the streets is one that will have to be dealt with in future in some more drastic manner. This is no particular reference to Prince Rupert streets, because the traffic is not yet such as to cause worry. In the larger centres accidents occur every day and often the innocent pedestrian is the one that suffers. There is a possibility that as time goes on a more wary AN AUTOMATIC Printing In.(rumcntn lo be In htnllrd nt Vancouver and Victoria lo Serve Wtt MORI!
