If Ttltphoni ffcj Stjrmuur too BLOOD TESTS AS EVIDENCE Woman Convicted of Imprisonment for Perjury In German Case LONDON. Jan. 7. The use qt blood tests to determine paternity it Illustrated by two legal cases reported from Oer-many during the past week. The first was neard In Wurtemberg, where a woman applying for an affiliation order swore that a certain man was the father of her Meg ttlmate child. The detente countered by producing evidence that the characteristics of the Infant's blosd were Incompatible with thu relationship. The blood of the man, they said, was of one type, and the wnians was of another; U was uripos-sib!e that the union of two such persons ooula have produced offspring whose blcod had the characteristics demonstrated. By which reasoning the court was so far convinced as to sentence the woman to six months' Imprisonment tor perjury. The second catfe was CT the same kind, but the Judgment delivered on It by the highest Prussian courc. was In a contrary sense. Similar medical evidence was brought to refute a charge of paTer-iii'O'. and the general validity of the blood testa was admitted. Apparently, nowever. a witness stated that In a series ol over a,000 .-s mv-tgated In iU28 there had been one exception to the rules, and the court accordingly decided that the tests da not prjvide the absolute proof required by the law. llll.LIAItl) U.UilE AVLKAdKH M.
