PRINCE RUPERT Northern and Central British Columbia's Newspaper PRINCE RUPERT, D.C., FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19. 1928 VICTORIA, October 19. Hon. T. I). Pattullo is looked upon as the most likely man to be appointed house leader for the Liberal party at the coming session of the Legislature since Dr. McLean will probably not be in the House. The only other man mentioned prominently is Captain Ian Mackenzie, member for North Vancouver, who was given a cabinet position just prior to the defeat of the Liberal government. It is not quite certain that Mr. Pattullo would accept the position hut should he do so he would be in line for the premiership whenever the Liberals returned to power. There is talk of a Liberal convention for the purpose of appointing a leader of the party, but that is not likely to happen until next year. Tn the meantime it will he necessary for the House leader to prepare for the work. Mr. Pattullo is at present in the East. After discussing the aaiMzitiK fertility and grewth of that section the paper aaye: Tfcc advantage to the rjomin leu in having the two railway system crating in the Peace Ilher country is "apparent. It is evident the CanaJian National could not permit that great area to paw into the exclusive control of the Canadian Pacific, if that were attempted the Canadian National would have to build its own linen into that I iKtrict. It Ih alo obvious that the Peace Hiver country, at a t'ate not very far In the future, muitt have a direct outlet to the Pacific coat either by using the port of Prince Ru pert or by the development of another Pacific port north of Prince Rupert. "If the two systems were in the l'eace Hiver on a competitive haais, the result would likely, to be the building of two outlet to the Pacific coaet.
