They can go on criticizing the government if they want to but we should like to just point out that it was the Borden government that made the first arrangements for the American legation, although it was only recently that the first appointment to the office wa made. POSITION OF P.G.E. Il must be terrible to be a "not wanted" child like the P.G.E. The poor crmktte has no mother or father, is disowned by everybody, has no visible meant of subsistence and everyone is wishing it would commit suicide. Possibly it may grow up to be great and useful and t even spectacular but the chances are against it. FISHERIES REGULATIONS The' Dominion fisheries department is doubtless in a difficult position. The fishermen and canners cannot agree as to what they want, but the salmon must be protected. First an order goes out to cut off the licenses of all those who are not full fledged citizens, regardless.. Protests at once reach the department and they change the order in accordance fith the wishes of the protestants. Then it isltndsBtoftd. ihsA one ijne ifoljjng, isto be the rule, but the de-ftysfibjtoKX W offfijals In Wth -denies thiivwfcen pro tests Trave begun to arrive. Pggitily pretty soon order may develop from the present chaos. At any rate it is to be hoped that nothing will be done to injure (the industry either by decimating the fish or by putting the fishermen out of business or working a hardship on Yesterday an enlightening article was published in this paper telling of the benefits that would accrue to the province through the Dominion recognizing the claim of the province of British Col urabia to the railway lands and the Peace Kiver Block. So far these lands have not been turned over but the promise is made that legislation will be introduced into parliament providing that this be don. X The lands and forests and mines should be worth a great deal to the province. Not only is there the present income derived from those lands but there is a prospective extension as the development of the country takes place. When the Peace River belt is sun-eyed doubtless is will be found to he even more valuable than is at pre sent suggested. At any rate it is a good thing to have this tues-tlon settled and the lands managed from the province instead of from Ottawa. EQUALITY. CO-OPERATION AND RESPONSIBILITY Premier Mackenzie King says that the desire of the government in regard to imperial relations shall be "equality, co-ojieration and responsibility." That eeras to be a pretty good motto and would be just as good if it had ee ttored;by Mr.JBennett. jB.fact is1 the motto of both sides speaking for all of Canada. We want equality with all other parts of the Empire, we want to work with them and expect them to work with us. The last mentioned work is the hardest to live up to. We must realize our own responsibility to the Empire and do our part as a member equal wi'.h all the others. We must be ready to defend ourselves and help defend them just as we expert them to defend themselves and help defend us. They cannot do that without ships and neither can we. They must havenirplnnes and aviators and no must we. The time has not yet arrived when we may look very confidently for world peace. A good police force, at any rate, is necessary and this police force must be equipped. Canada must do her share in this matter if she is to projierly realize her responsibility as an equal factor in the British Empire.
