Duthie of Seattle, has done a great deal for Northern British Columbia. His opening up of the well known Duthie mine at Smithers was one of the greatest things that could have happened to the district. Later he invested largely in Prince Rupert real estate. Now he has taken an option on the Rufus Argents mining properties on Bear River near Stewart and will proceed with active operations. If Mr. Duthie carries out a policy at Stewart similar to that at Smithers his name will become known even better Had the people of the whole of the northern British Columbia will benefit. KALU.M LAKE TOO Word is also received from Kalum Lake that a mining property which has not been worked for several years is again being actively developed. There is no doubt that some of the mines in the Terrace district will become active shipping before long but which it will be even the miners themselves do not know. Possibly it will be this property which was discovered by a Terrace man and in which Terrace people put their money- THAT OREGON FARMER Editors are said to be troublesome people but they sometimes have their gwn tspubU. Here is a little instance. It was thought that Prince Rupert people might be interested in a prominent farmer who was in the city, John Casper, governor of Rotary district Number 1, who was visiting the local club. An interview was sought and a brief article written, telling that he was a big farmer in Northern Oregon, near Walla Walla. He was a success and made enough money out of it to enable him to give a year of bis time to the cause of Rotary. But when the story appeared instead of showing that he was the owner of a four thousand acre wheat farm, it appeared as four hundred acres. The whole article appeared ridiculous, because half of the land was in surnmerfallow each year yet they used a combined thresher and reaper to harvest the grain. .By the time the error was caught the paper was on the street and the ran of the press almost completed. Man in the Moon I dont see bow Canada can be called a Christian nation when she has nelthei army or navy. The other day I told Jake I knew a local man away hack whan he wore short pants. Another factor, according to officials of the Canadian National Hallways, which wiu have a distinct bearing upon the rapid flow of grain in the world markets this yaar, is the use by many iarmers of the now combine machine which makes on operation of cutting ind threshing. The possibility of such a condition has bean considered for some month And as a result the Canadian National Railways have already assembled In Western Canada more than 40.000 cars and SIS locomotive to move the crops out of the country.
