News of the Mines AROUND PRINCE RUPERT Iluilding Road Into Georgia River Cold MinesDiamond Drilling Woodbine and IJig Missouri To Develop Placer Leases in Naas Valley Work has started on the completion of the trail from th mouth of the Georgia .River near Stewart to the Georgia River Gold Mines Ltd. The work will be rushed with all possible speed so that the pack trains may take in mining equipment and supplies before the summer is far advanced. After mining commences, it is the intention to widen the trail to permit the passage of caterpillar trac tors and trailers. It is believed that it will be possible to keep such road open all winter. Development of the Georgia River mine is being watched with keen interest as some of the finest samples of gold ore ever seen in the Portland Canal district have come from that property. diamond drilling program at the Woodbine mine at Stewart to determine the limits of the known ore bodies and in the hope of locating others. An assay cfflce Is being opened at the mine, the company having secured the services of Mr. Comrte, formerly with the DC. Diamond drilling la being speeded up' the Big Missouri mine at Stewart. Eight men arrived at the property last week with one machine and another drill is coming at once from Alnsworth. Is understood that the drilling Is to be pushed with the three machines in ght-nour shifts, the object being to xplore a recently reported under ground strike as thoroughly as possible before the nest large payment, due in about six weeks, la made on the Developments on the Northern Light property at Stewart are proving satisfac tory. At present the work consists of surface esp I oration in the way of tripping and open cutting. One crew of men la employed in this work on the extension of the Woodbine ore sone which appears to be heavily mineralised with sulphides through which occur sections of high grade ore.
