A capacity audience greeted the effort, proceeds of which will go to the Prince Rupert Gyro Club for its children's playground fund. "The Saving Grace," which will be repeated tonight, is a play of just a little different nature from what this proficient local dramatic organization has previously put on. Though -a comedy, fea- with many ludicrous and mirth-provoking denouncementn, it is a shade heavier than previou plays and there ia not quite ho much laughter. The cant consists of only seven person, each of whom are given the opportunity to demonstrate more histrionic initiative. It proved splendid entertainment for the large audience last night. The doings of the now impecunious though haughty family of an English financial man who reaches the crisis of his affairs its the war breaks out constitutes the theme. Alex A. Connon, president of the Players' Club, takes in his usual talented manner the role of Blinn Corbett, the scheming head of the household, and Miss Etta Robertson, always popular on the local stage, is his willowy though no less conspirator)' wife. . Mrs. James Farquhar makes a winsome young niece, and the moving feature of the play is her love affair, deliberate at first, with the young man of the world, albeit tied to his mother's apron - -'ripa. who pxrt is in the capable hands of Louis Smith. As tne indignant mother of the youth Mrs. E. W. Marentette, excels. Harold A. Ponder, as a manservant, and Miss Caroline Mitchell, sc a ladies' maid, complete the ;st and upon them devolves more than the usual amount of action which both, carry out with distinct advantage Costuming of the ladies constitutes a showy feature of the piece which appealed strongly to the audience last night. Gowns for the ladies were loaned by Mrs. H. S. Parker and fur coats by William Goldbloom while George D. Tite supplied the furniture. Bouquets Presented The popularity of the lady members of the cast and the excellent manner in which they carried out their parts were testified to by a number of beautiful bouquet which were presented before the iinai curtain. Arrangements for tne piay went off in a smooth manner in the new play house. Fine between acta and opening and closing music was rendered by Jack de Jauaseraad and his Rhpert Casitolians.
