With tho object of overcoming what delegates considered a difficulty in convicting persons who drive an automobile while in an intoxicated state, the annual convention of the Canadian Temperance Federation voted to ask the dominion government to amend the criminal code section to read "under the influence of liquor' instead of while "intoxicated." The convention also asked the dominion to prohibit the brewing of beer for private use. v Regarding the manufacture of liquor in general, the convention went on record as favorable to taking such action as may secure ari authoritative judgment on the question of whether the authority to manufacture rests with the federal or provincial governments. The federation further passed a resolution calling upon the government of Canada to take such action as will effectually "prevent the importation of intoxicating liquor from Canada into United States contrary to the 'laws of-that-nation-fPhcnvelition viewedVithr apprehension the conditions along the border resulting from liquor smuggling from Canada into the United !
