r Published Every Afternoon, except Sunday, by Prince Rupert Daily News, Limited, Third Avenue. H. F. PULLEN - - - Managing Ediior. DAILY EDITION Member of Audit Bureau of Circulations Thursday, July 19, 1328 . SWING OF PENDULUM The swing of the pendulum has followed rts natural course in spite of strenuous efforts to stop it and the Liberal government at Victoria has been swept from power by the overwhelming vote of the people. In .spite of the fact that there was practically a new premier in office and that they had a splendid record of achievement as well an a fixed policy for th future, the people decided that they were not required any more at present and have handed them their pass to the opposition benches. There is no mistake about it. The Liberals are beaten and beaten badly and all they can do is to take their dismissal with good grace, bowing to the will of the people. It is part of the fortune of political life. It was ratoar a regrettable thing that Dr. Mac Lean was not given a chance to show what he could do at the head of affairs, btrt the decree of. the people is final and absolute. Dr. MacLean is out. THE NEW GOVERNMENT .Upon Dr. Tolmie will now devolve the task of choosing a caturuat and carrying on the affairs of the administration. It is rather satisfactory to know, following the leader's published manifesto; tfevt to Conservatives will continue the Liberal policies and that there will be no break in the general continuity of the work of government. Dr. Tolmie is a fine type of man and he should be able to choose from those selected to the House a group that will satisfactorily carry on the government. We suggest that every co-operation be given the new government in its work. The election is over and all party feeling should be set aside. What the government will need will be support for its work and that is What those who put the country before party will be prepared to give. ... , HIS MAJESTY'S LOYAL OPPOSITION Happily for the good of the country there will be a strong opposition in the new Legislature. Hon. T. D. Pattullo, if elected, will probably be chosen as leader, as being the senior member of that group, although Hon. A. M. Manson is also mentioned in that regard. With such men aB Pattullo, Manson, Buckham, Dr. Sutherland and Wrinch to the left of Mr. Speaker, the government will find itself cottipelred to hew to the narrow path. The province is fortunate in its opposition. On their work depends very largely how well matured and considered the legislation of the next few years will be. v ALL FOR BRITISH COLUMBIA Now that the campaign is over, following a strenuous fight, we suggest to bath, sides that after all What we are striving for is to secure the best possible for British Columbia. We all want the province to prosper and if this is to come about, there must be cooperation. Let us work as one man for the advancement of our city and district and make Northern and Central British Columbia a greater factor than, ever in the life of the province. In this the Daily News will do its part. There will be no slackening becarjfee the "people did not on this occasion vote accord ing to our views. We have great plans for the future and shall at once set about carrying them out so that this section of the province mav have the best possible newspaier. After all, an election is only an incident. It has little to do with Un real work that is being done. The developtnerit (Wfrtfialgn for the Mohawk mine near New llacelton map ped out by Themes B. Harris, the object being to develop tonnage enough to warrant toe installation zi a mill. No ore will be shipped until this development has been completed. The lower tunnel has already been connected up wtth a vein that produced rich ore on the fifty foot level and the farther in- the tunnel gees the better the ore appears. The kiture of tbe mine depends entirely upon the amount of ore that can be blocked out but there la every hope '.hat there, wlU be sufficient for tttei mill. Besides examlntnc the Mahewk.
