"THE PATRIOT" OPENS TONIGHT; BIG FILM IS WONDER PICTURE Odd Character Admirably Presented byEmil fanning atv. P ti The Capitol Czar Paul I of Russia who reigned during the latter part of the 18th century gained international fame by being.murdered! This fact was recently brought, to light with the presentation of Alfred Neumann's play, "The Patriot." Paramount has taken this famous play and adapted it to the screen not only for its interesting possibilities but principally because the leading character offered Emil Jannings, the acknowledged greatest dramatic actor on the screen today, the bppbrtunity to reach the peak of his dramatic ability. Suffice it to say Jannings has made Paul I real and almost terrible, so realistic does he interpret :he role of mad man. For Paul the First was mad. He had. the heart of a child and the brain of a tiger. He once ordered a regiment to march and then forgot to halt them. They were in such a state of fear of him hat they marched into Siberia, where one by one they dropped. Paul being nformed of this laughed heartily. Phone 208 "HE WANTS TO FIGHT" Emil Jannings has eviden- ced a desire to do a picture of tho prize ring. Why? Two reasons. First, he enjoys th-,- sport. Second, h" wants to play the, roll of a heavy- -r weijjht fighter in a motion picture.- ' One reason- advanced for the actor's great ability in i' impersonating -characters so vividly on the screen is be- cause he studies them and when facing the camera ac tually believes he is the ori- ginal. When engaged in making "The Patriot" he ac- tually was nccMsed of being "off" so great was his con- centration with business on hand. So when he' iriven his on- I portunity to do a story of 1 the prie ring, his fans may ! rest assured hejll be no 'Vet-' up" for anyone. ' It will be a classic. 4 I J This great film shows t tli jCapitol for two niuhts only, t night and Thursday. BIG STRIKE TIGER MINF Considerable Excitement Cause' at Alice Arm by Find I There, is considerable excite jment at Alice Arm over the fact that high grade silver ore ha been encountered in No. 3 tunne' of the Tiger mine 200 feet from the portal though it was not ex reeled to be reached until an additional 50 feet had been driven. The point at which the ore was j encountered gives, depth of US feet below the surface outcrop-pings and the location was com-'parativejy easy. The ore has ibeeh driven into for more than two feet. Ore has now been developed at three level oa the Tiger and the successful exploratory underground work indicates a lnrp tonnage of ore, much of which will nrobably be of a high grade lmSIaiSiC, character. A sit fa now being selected for a still lower tunnel to encounter the ore body at a depth of 800 feet. Work on the tunnel is starting immediately and it will be commenced on the old Dolly Varden railway grade.
