There was a crowd of about fifty persons In attendance and considerable enthusiasm was displayed, D. C. McRae. president, was in the chair with C. Q. Ham, secretary. One of the features of the oro-ceedlngs was a report by Felix Batt upon his activities since having been appointed a few months t?o as part time radio inspector here. He mentioned a number of factors which caused trouble with reception. Along this line, he declared, considerable improvement ' had been made but there was, still much to be learned and done In the matter of eliminating noises. Radio owners should report to him any definite information as to the cause of Interference and this, would assist greatly in getting relief. A committee consisting of Ben Rice. William Sandison and Fred Riffou was appointed to Invest!-! zate and secure the names of all radio owners in the city, particularly those having amateur broad -casting code sets or regenerative eti. a renort will be made by this committee at next meeting There was a general discussion -n ths matter of Improving reception, particular reference being made to aerials and grounding It ; was suggested by W. R. Love that; U might be a good idea to try i grounding by some other means j man by using water pipes which a general practice here. By that means, Mr. Love believed much of the noise might be elim inated. NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT Teacher Which is farther away. Africa or the moon? Small Boy-Africa. "Africa? I was told to take Lydia E Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and I have taken seven bottles. It has made me stronger and put' more color into my face. I am looking after my store and housework and my four children and 1 am getting along nicely now." Mrs. J. Malin, R. R. No. j, Barton Sc. East, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, PAGE RIDEOUT COMPARES RUPERT'S RAILWAY PROBLEMS (Continued from page one) But the wheat In the C. N. cars has travelled 1376 miles to get to Vancouver, against 58U mues to Prince Rupert, and the wheat in the c. P. cars na3 traveuea imi miles instead, of the 580 miles to Prince Rupert, if it had been possible to have shipped it that way. Nor is our story yet completed. for this wheat with other grains is loaded on a ship and the' ship sails away to the Orient, but on' the sec-tmd day out. or when sha Is cross ing tne 135m degree 01 longitude. she is miles nearer to Prince Rup ert, than she is to Vancouver. That is where the Northern Alberta and British Columbia farmers' wheat to some six weeks after he bagged it up to haul it to the river steamer. This little story is but a striking example 1 of what the people are up against and does It not wind very much like the potatoes of the maritime! going to Montreal for shipment to the .West Indies. The hauling of tthat wheat lB7itnl!s and wtl miles -respectively by the c.N. and 'CP. is good bnslnws for them and if Is for this- busfnes? that they propose to bleed the country for years to come end while the C.N. and CP. are thus holding the country at a standstill if they can, the City of Vancouver Is working its dally papers on the double shift trying to unload mat Mcuriae. Foiev Welch and Stewart white elephant on to tns peoo'e 01 tne Northern Alberta and B.C. country and force the same farmer to ship his 7000 bushel of wheat 874 mile south to their port and then send tt bv prince Rupert on it way to the Orient. Some week ago there was a man here from Japan wanting al' of the Peace River wheat he could get and will be wanting more and more of It as things improve In his own conntry. And remember this man was looking for Peace River wheat which surely estab lished the fact that the market for Peace River wheat is in the Orient. ( Follow Setting Sun Now. here In the Peace River conntry are the great wheat fields. Following the setting sun we nat urally come to our Port of Prince Rupert (we neither need or want any other 1. and still following th setting sun across the Pacific Is our natural market In the Orient I wonder where one could go to find a more valuable Canadian proposition: we are squaring out tne country to the Paciiic. estab liahtng a port on our Northern Pacific and thus utilize our whole Pacific Coast and to have such powers as the CP. and C.N. deliberately hold this proposition ud In the fare of the people of all Canada who have practically issued orders through the Canadian Chamber of Commerce for the construction of a coast outlet. And also for a pity like Vancouver to throw out the tentacles of an oc topus and suck this traffic to their own channels Is of Itself a I sin against nature which sin snouia onn! its own rewara. What About Stewart? We are. or should be, building this country of ours in tiers and when we irpt thl nnnnw.tlon mari I between Peace River and Prince Rupert we have made a big move toward that end. And the next tier should be by way of Stewart ! norweafti to tne urounanog coai fields, the Laurler Pass, the Hay River country and Fort Vermilion and on east. When this is done the Portland Canal will come to its own as the St. Lawrence of the Pacific and the North. And if the Peace River and Prince Rupert connection were made, say in 1030. then the Stew art and Fort Vermilion connection) would be needed before 1935 and; when it is needed the people of Peace River and Prince Rupert I will be boosting for it as strong las they arc boosting for Prince! Rupert line today for they are a! true pioneering people and know1 jthc ropes of building a new coun-j try. I i But if the City of Vancouver ls to have the dictation of thi3 Nor-i thern Alberta-B.C. country and drag its traffic down over their old wh)te elephant trail. . then, how Is cither, of the connections which I have referred to. to be made In fifty years? And. if the authorities of Canada decide that Vancouver is the only port in the Canadian Pacific waters that a hip can land, then surely it is ';lme to have the han-handle of Vas'ra attended south to the north end of Vancouver harbor and I am sure that I am speaking the feelings of a multitude of people in Northern Alberta and I Northern B.C., when I say that j they can extend the pan-handle 1 to take In this whole country and we will take our chances under hhe government of another coun-, try.
