I have the liberty; ns a .fisherman, to express some of the feelings that fish-traps have aroused among all" men depending diroct-ly or indirectly on tlie fishing industry. It is.avpll kown fact, that it is a one-mart's "method of conver ting the industry, and diverting the proceeds into one channel. A trap in the right location will stop' the activities of several hun dred fishermen. Dealing with fish conservation: Fish traps will catch all fish, big or small, and have had the reputation in the past of being responsible for the biggest wholesale slaughter and complete depletion of creeks, streams and rivers, in' all parts of the coast where they, have been in operation. I could supply names of a number of old-time fishermen, who have been in direct contact with traps, and they are willing to tes tify that wherever fish traps have been used and operated for any length of time, salmon never again appeared in these same waters. I am forwarding these few words as a protest from, FISHERMAN Week-End Specia SWIFF'S PURE LARD- s P. GAMULA. In "TlieiM of the ''Fathers," .Tanning plays the role of Wil-helm Spengler, a German-American waiter and saloon keeper, who becomes a fabulously wealthy bootlegger only to have his life crash around his shoulders, bringing him in the end back to his original status. In thr, leading feminine role i Ruth Chatterton, the famous star of the legitimate stage, who mukes her screen debut in this picture. Her role is thoroughly an unsympathetic one, but one which will serve to introduce her to American screen audiences under the best of auspices. Also featured in support to Jannings is young Barry Norton, who gained fame in "What Price Glory?" as the baby-faced soldier. II rs role is that of Jannings' son.
