The same paper in the same editorial has the following: There is a very strong feeling existing that the new province idea is purely a plan to embarass the new-Conservative government at Victoria, and as Hon. T. D. Pattullo, leader of the opposition, was going east for some weeks it was felt this question was as safe as any for his zealous henchmen to work on during his absence. But the leader of the opposition is again in Victoria, and if he is as wise a politician as most of us believe him to be, he will soon put the soft peddle on any new province scheme. We would remind readers that the movement was started a number of years ago by Lieut.-Col. C. W. Peck, V.C., or, at any rate, given some impetus bv him when speaking before the Board df Trade here. For a long time it simmered slowly, being mentioned now and then, and looked on only as a last resort against discrimination. Today the movement has been accentuated by the neglect of the Government at Victoria to continue work on the Skeena River highway, something which we are inclined to think even the writer of the article quoted would not support This paper has so far not committed itself to any line of action in connection with the movement, although we have given it such publicity as seemed warranted. If it becomes necessary we shall campaign in favor of it, but perhaps it may not become necessary. Much will depend on the manner in which the north is treated by the sout. ,Th3m is today undoubtedly a growing feeling in favor of the formation of a new province for the north,-the pre vH1.idea teine that the north is being bled for the pur-pofe oTdevelopinp- the south. If this is proved to be cor-i?lteiU&'Hm action. If it is shown to be in-cofYWt, ffiereis no more to be said. An inquiry will be beneficial m any case. CIIILDREN ON THE STREET jd"anger rff children playing in the middle of the street re often the subieot at rnmnlninr w dangerous is the foolhardy actions of a great man chil) dren In trying to run across the road in front of a car. or suiuHiig tu move oui 01 me road when they hear a car coming. One of these days there will be another accident and then for a time at least the children will be warned and there will be a large margin of safety Driving in Prince Rupert is most difficult, for a great many children seem to have no sense of responsibility, immediately a car driver goes at all fast or does anythirif wrong he us nulled up, but the chief cause of danger doe? not lie with the car drivers, but with careless people and especially children. One case is reported of a child-that lay m the middle of the road and refused to get up. so that the car had to pull up in order to save his life! Par ente would do well to caution their nrogeny. Often it i children from homes of the more well to do who are mos careless. .'anoomer. ; Inspector Willi am SpOler. provincial I pettc. sailed Wh maralng on lte Prircess AUre far a vtatt to the Atltaj 1 district en official duties. ; . veek in Prince Itupcrt with his son.
