But. as he pointed out, it would be difficult to get Parliament' to take action until the surveys being Undertaken by the two great railways In conjunction with the arov- ernment of British Columbia were completed, and It was known what the railway companies thought about the matter. It was probably by way of reply to some local expressions of Impatience that the Prime Minister went on to assure his audience that. If the government should deem that there was unnecessary delay on the part of the companies. It would take steps to push things forward. At the moment, however, there Is no reason to suppose that Mr. Bcat-ty and Sir Henry Thornton are "dilly-dallying." They have both on occasion, and recently, undertaken that the Peace River connection should be made as soon as, in view of all the facts, It was warranted. There is, of course, a possibility that they may be overcautious, and from this point of view the assurance given by Mr. King Is very acceptable, always granting that no-Utlcal exigencies do not impel the administration to hurry on con-strucUon at the cost of making an economic blunder. The west has seen too many miles of expensively-laid1 track abandoned to care about having another railway -at-any price policy adopted and carried into effect. Mckenzit of Queen Charlotte City, accompanied by Mrs. Mckenzie, left this afternoon on the Catala for Vant uver en route to Los Angelefe, where they will holiday for a couple of months. Mr. McKenzlc is the proprietor of the Premier Hotel at Queen Charlotte City and he aim operates cars over the island highway as far .as Port Clements. Mr. Mckenzie says that the Public Works Department did good work on the road this year, but the appropriation was not large enough. In the summer they manage very well; but in winter the road get3 in bad shape and Is hard to travel. They appreciated the work done, but more money was needed to put the highway in shape. Speaking of its value, Mr. Mckenzie said it was a wonderful thing for the ranchers. Now they could get their stuff to market and sell it readily and this gave an impetus to production. There was good hunting and fishing on the Islands and he expected Yery soon Prince Rupert people (would look to them for a place to spend the holidays. Mist' E."
