Fol-lowing the recent announcement that the Canadian Northeastern Railway at Stewart had been granted a lease of the foreshore at the head of Portland Canal, it is said here that the line will undoubtedly be taken over by C. P. R. interests as part of their scheme for developing the mines of Northern British Columbia through the Consolidated Mining & Smelting Co. The understanding here is that the railway will le put in good shape up the Rear River as far as the George Copper and surveys will be carried out beyond that point.
