ION60N 17S0 tNCUND Ford Price R Warning To Native Boys Great Spirit Sent Stream of Lava On Banks of Naas Kiver to I Punish Them About two hundred years ago' some Indian boys were spearing humpback salmon in the Naas River with a native bone spear. Tiring of this they took one of the salmon, cut off Its fins and slitting it inserted some gum wood and set fire to It and stood watching the agony of the fish. One of the medicine men of the tribe reproved the lads and told them their cruel act would surely: call down on them the wrath of the great spirit. j Very;.-sbn a volcano near the river became active and the lava rolled down over the country, cov-1 ering a very large area, and today this story Is told by the natives to warn the children against being cruel and to make them conserve the fish on which they live. i That is the story somewhat as it was told by Rev. W. E. Colllson at the dinner given Saturday nignt to W. A. Found, deputy minister of fisheries; He also told the gathering that the Indians were always conservationists. They also objected to taking away the entrails of the fish' after it was caught but these were always returned to the river.
