C, MOKtAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1929 ENGLAND WAS A HYPNOTIST Killed Woman Who Took Him Into Her Home in Liverpool LIVERPOOL, Feb. -1: Within four minute of his appearance in the dock at Liverpool assizes today Joseph Victor Clark, aged 21, was sentenced to death for the murder of an old woman with whom he had lodged and who was found strangled to death. Clark, a wireless engineer', nonchalantly pleaded guilty. Clark told his acquaintances that he never intended to work for a living as he possessed hypnotic powers. Apparently his boast had some foundation for he fascinated young and old women literally by the dozens. One took him home (o lodge with her mother, the victim who paid for her hospitality with her life after the. murderer had taken the whole of her savings. When arrested, Clark made an amazing confession, starting out by saying: "One hour ago I had no more intention of murdering anyone than of flying."
