NEWS Thursday, DcccmhpT 2 Nes of the Mines AROUND PKINCE RUPERT Mountain Boy Active; B. C. Silver Quiet Montreal Interests Take Over Lucky Jim at Stewart; Imnortnnt Montreal mining and financial interests have concluded negotiations for the taking over of the Lucky Jim property, adjoining the Mountain boy on tne northwest in the American Creek section of the Portland Canal district. . Acting on behalf of the eastern interests, William Tolin has already made a cash payment of $3000 to the' owners of the Lucky Jim and subsequent payments are scheduled to follow in due course. A program of in tensive development work 13 j planned for next year. The prop- but no furtner commercial values SwS'SE -ISr: were found. Drift 637. the north- ,U1C IUillLUUCU Willi UI1C LailVV V-40 of the Last Chance group, and Is Harry Townsend, consulting engi-jneer for the Mountain Boy, gave I considerable attention to the Lucky Jim and took numerous samples, one of which, taken across seven, feet of the vein, gave 80c in gold with 77.8 ounces silver and 5 copper. A sample taken by William Dosence across fourteen feet of the vein assayed 9 copper and a small amount of gold and silver. It is now thoroughly established that this vein is a continuation of the main Mountain Boy vein. The vein strikes northwest and southwest and dips into the hill at an angle of 45 degrees. It has been tracec for 700 feet and much of the ground has yet to be prospected by the owners. Recently the new owners of the property had an engineer on the ground and it is understood that his sampling bore up equally well with that taken by Mr. Town-send and Mr. Bosence. During this winter and coming spring, the Mountain Boy Dronerty i will undergo the most progressive development the Portland Canal district has ever seen, according to William Tolin in giving a brief review of the work accomplished at the property so far and plans that are proposed for next year. Apart from the activities at the Mountain Boy proper, Mr. Tolin expects to see American Creek come Into its own next year as the chief centre of mining activity in the Stewart district. In addition to his own company s large program of expansion, he : looks for considerable activity from ! the Anaconda Copper Co. on their recently acauirqd Good Luck group. mucn Development oy me usiskq Rouyn Co. on htr group of four claims and a good deal of prospecting and preliminary work on the Lucky Jim grotto. The Northern Prospecting Syndicate may also be active further up the creek on the property which they have every reason to believe is the old "Arteona Copper" of 1898. In preparation for this winter's work, the Mountain Boy is at present engaged in laying in iau tons oi supplies sumcient to last a crew of fifteen men for many I months. Two shifts are now work- i ing but by the end of May another I shift will be added to speed up the 5000 feet of tunneling scheduled for ; the coming year. The company is ; endeavoring to block out a large! tonnage of ore by the end of next ' summer and the construction of a , mill does not seem to be a remote possibility. Since last spring 20001 feet of tunnels have been driven, tapping the high-grade lead in No. 1 level at a depth of 170 feet. In No. 2 level the Mann vein has been encountered and in the course of development a raise was made to go. i level mrough ore all the way. The present work consists of drifting toward the intersection of the Mann vein and the high-grade lead, involving a 1500-foot tunnel which will not reach Its objective until nexi May. Tin intersection was discovered last fall by an Intrepid! workman who deaclnded by ropes; from the cliff above and was re- I warded with a thirty-foot width of exceptionally good milling ore. The Mountain Boy now looms as one of the most promising potential producers in the Bear River section. The company is amply financed and thoroughly capable of carrying out any program outlined for it by the engineers in charge.. j Most of recent work on the B. C. Silver property at Stewart has been confined to No. 6 level. Drift 636, the southwesterly drive on the zone, has been advanced 89 feet, thus bringing the face 982 feet from the shaft. This advance was mainly in favorable prophyry, showing scattered commercial values. Some cross-cutting was done of this drift easterly drive on the zone, has been I!!?1!?
