Theo Collart, chairman of the Prince Rupert-Peace River Outlet Committee, to H. M. Mathews, secretary, Smithers District Board of Trade: I was pleased to receive your letter of December 12 and was surprised, at the same time, to learn that you had written me as soon as you got the circular letter concerning the Peace River outlet. I must say that your letter never reached me and cannot understand how It could have gone astray, so have enquired at the post office here, but they tell me It must be at Smithers post office that probably a mistake was made. I want to thank yoa, on behalf of the association, for the interest you are taking in this movement to secure for the Peace River farmers the right to get their products to the market by the most economical i and shortest route to the coast, and, since such a route must come to Prince Rupert to reach a port al-1 i ready provided with shipping facll-! Hies, it win nave tne enect oi giving an Impetus to the development of the country through which it will I pass, and that, naturally, will be the northern and central part of Brit-, 1 lsh Columbia. It will not matter which way the route goes If It comes straight west, because the development of this port depends on the development of the country along the C.N Jt., and vice versa. Our only aim is to show the powers that be ' that the Peace River people, as well ' as the people along the C .N R., have a right to nave a place In the sun as , well as the other parts of the prov-; lncc and tne only way to do that is to keep up the agitation until a de-! cision is made. i The maritime provinces have sue- j ceeded in their fight for their right to share In the prosperity of the rest of Canada, although it took time and money to succeed. The provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan have also, through their constant agitation and representation ' to the government, been successful in getting the Hudson Bay Railway built, and there Is no reason on' earth why the Pace River country) as well as the central and northern part of Brltlsh.Columbla shouldknot secure what Is their right as well. . To carry on that f ixht we need Tioney, and the idea otyxls assocla- tion Is to secure funds, to .nrpyjde' mainly for advertising., fcj, the,, pa-ncrs in the east bedause .we con- i slder that the east Is the main f ac-1 tor In the matter . It Is all very well : to say that the engineers will have ! the last say In the matter, but from 1 past experience we all know that such Is not often the case and that i "pull and politics" have a lot to do with it. Such articles as the on In the Interior News the ojther day, putting the QuesU6n,4n,. tty tnqn vivid, and impressive, inannerjn je- gard to the P.GJ?., Ji sent to, some Influential eastern people and pa 8 ers would go a long way to open le eye3 of those who will have the weight In the balance when It comes to a decision as to the proper out-, let. I How Can Help j The best way, then, I Imagine, that you could be of real help and assistance for the carrying on of this fight would be to Interest the oeople in your district In buying "booster buttons" which we are is-, suing as a membership fee in the The next thing would be, as you tir time nave already done, to set from to time articles In your dally paper, j do so, and would like to hear from you again at your earliest convenience. I must say In passing that the Falrvlew Board of Trade, in the Peace River, have pledged themselves tb sell a hundred buttons, and that enquiries are comlna from all over the country as far as the Queen unanoue isianas, ana mat even from, .friends in California and Seattle In particular we have been asked for buttons. It is a gratifying proof that not only the whole of the northern part of British Columbia is deeply interested, but that even old residents of this part of the province are in with us. and I feel It Is a very good omen, for the ultimate result of this fight which can but only end In a great victory. Inspector James M. Tupper R. C. M. P. returned to the city on yesterday afternoon's train from a brief trip to the interior on official duties. A Tiresome Cough Was Left By A Severe Cold Mra. Chas.
