Cowper Young to establish a planing m in the city. This is an industry that is badly needed as is also the shingle mill which is to be operated... We the in the neighborhood and to have it manufactured ready for use right here is a big step forward. While the industry will not compare with the shipbuilding yard in the number of men e! ployed, it will mean a steady payroll here all the year round. have lumber will mean increasing prosperity to the merchants and better business all round. Wants Tablet For Museum. Harlan I. Smith, Dominion Archaeologist, asks for aid trying to secure the recently discovered tablet at Kispiox for one of the museums either at Victoria or Ottawa. Possibly publicity which we are giving the letter may lead to the desired result. The letter is published on another page explanatory. Need of Museum In Prince Rupert. As Prince Rupert is the centre of the whole of the northern and central portion of British Columbia some steps should ve taken to lay the foundation for a museum here. If there we such an institution possibly sportsmen would be willing to donate trophies to it and Indian and other collections might be adde from time to time. The nucleus of a museum might be established in connec- tion with a civic library, the librarian being also the custodian o! the library. War trophies taken by north country men might be an important part of the collection, and the whole would suvn prove to be of great interest to tourists and others who come this way. It would be one of the show places, and we have few enough here now. A small art collection might well be a part of such stitution and enlargements of some of the fine local photographed, would add to ijs value. The work of such m as pers McLeod and others who specialize on typical northern scehes would prove of great interest. For instance, the use of rowbeats for fishing will soon be a thing of the past. Then the will bé no more strings of fishing craft towed®lat by tugs to fishing grounds. Photographs of these would from a historic point of view. Civil Servants At Last Rewarded. After much effort the civil servants have secured a recog- nition from the authorities of their claims to increases in salaries. It will be satisfactory to everyone to know that they are gettin what is due them. They are a hard working body of men should be well paid.
