The story of the late Mr. Dawson is that of many other Canadians who by their own energy and perseverance have fought their way to important positions in commercial and public life Born In a small Ontario town in 1876, he held successively a number of subordinate poets in business houses, working gradually west through Reglna, Winnipeg and Calgary, until in 1900 he opened his own office In this city. Vancouver did not hold him long, however. Two years later Prince Rupert became established as the terminal of the Grand Trunk Pacific, and Mr.. Dawson was quick to see the opportunity presented there. He established a wholesale grocery business which became one of the leading concerns of its kind In that part of British Columbia. Only the other day, W. H Malkln and Co, of this city, concluded an amalgamation by which F. O. Dawson, Limited, became part of the larger organization. Mr. Dawson was a very active member of the Prince Rupert Board of Trade, of which he became president in 1913. He was also a promoter of the Northern B. C. Agricultural and Industrial Association, his fellow-dlrectore honoring him with the presidency. An enthus-1 iastic Rotarlan, he took a large part i in tne activities oi mat Doay. It was In recognition of his wide knowledge of western conditions that a few years ago he was appointed a director of the Canadian National Railway, a position which he filled with his usual zeal and ability. Sadly enough, it was a misadventure on the tracks of that railway that cost him his life. Hallow'en Is Orderly Here i Local Youth Confined Themselves to Harmless Pranks Last Evening The time-honored Hallowe'en custom was celebrated by the youth of Prince Rupert with harmless pranks last night. Householders were kept busy handing out apples and sweet, to their young visitors, many of whom were funnily garbed, and there was a large consumption of fire crackers In some parts of the city. Church signboards on the verandahs of dwellings, gates suspended from telephone poles and overturned flower boxes were among the traces of the evening's pranks to be seen this morning.
