N0TCL0SING SIXTH AVE- City Council Has Change of Heart With Regard To Bylaw for Safety of Children The city council had a change of heart last night and decided not to proceed after all with an amend-ment to the street traffic bylaw which would have closed Sixth Avenue Bast between McBrlde Street and Booth Memorial School to traffic during certain hours of each school day as a means of protection for school children traversing that street. Two weeks ago the council had authorized that such an amending bylaw be brought in. Aid. Dlbb and Aid. Brown were, sponsors of the bylaw. Aid. Rudderllam felt now as he had felt two weeks ago that the by law was do in unnecessary and un- wise. He felt that to close Sixth j Avenue would not be meeting the situation at all, as there were many , thcr places !n the city where the . danger was considerably greater. ! Aia. He found there was as much trouble with children on streets where there were sidewalks as on those where there were not. Aid. Macdonald felt that respon sibility In the matter should be tnrown back tq the school board. He still felt thai traffic of the chil dren should be diverted to Fifth and Seventh Avenue. Aid.
