It was absurd to do so. Aid. Brown saw nothing absurd about this. The people concerned had been asking for years that this work be carried out and he saw no reason why it should not be done. Aid. Prudhomme thought that these people were entitled to an opportunity to get in and out of town. If the cost was too high -inaer the present estimate, a Reaper means of doing the work should be found. In any case, he thought the city wus bound to take care of this work at a cost which the lots could stand. He; 'feared to excessive cost of gome of the grading work in the; city and' pointed out that an es- Umate, of $18.40 per lineal foot had 'teen made .for Vanarsdol Street whereas the government h. two feet wider, had cost but $5.30; n was decided to accept the recommendation and settle upon the cost td be charged the prop- frty concerned when the bylaw . brg-nt In. - P. T. Ivon Jones The congregation of First Pres byterian Church has prevailed upon Rev. T. Ivon Jones to remain in Prince Rupert for a second month. Mr. Jones has preached since his arrival four. weeks ago. In spite of the storm last Sun day, the congregat on was above the average in number, and those attending listened to two extremely practical and helpful sermons. Mr. Jones is a man of strong religious convictions, unassuming in manner, refrehinprly vivid in expression and ueh;rhtfuiiy true to the Gospel message ol the New Testament. He has done special work in the University of Wales and at Oxford, is widely read, and approaches his problem in a scholarly manner, wastinK no words and making no side ex cursions. Mr. Jones has been received into the Presbyterian Church of Canada by the Commission on Reception of Ministers, which has Assembly powers. There are many in Prince Rupert who would like to dissuade him from, his proposed visit to New Zealand. Delayed by snow in Portland Canal, Union steamer Camosun, Capt. James Findlay, is due in port at 5 o'clock this afternoon from Anyox, Stewart and other northern points of call and will sail for the south almost immediately afterwards. IN THE Kl PKKMF.
