ARBITRATE OVER PIPE Board to Be Appointed To Settle Differences Between City and Local Supply Firm The city council, decided night to enter Into arbitration proceedings in the matter of a dispute between the corporation and the firm of Albert & McCaffery over sewer, pipe which was supplied by the latter concern some time ago and which was not accepted by the city engineer on the grounds that it aw not comply with specifications. Similar pipe was said to have been accepted and used by the former city engineer. Correspondence from Albert & McCaffery on the matter was read, the company agreeing to arbitration on condition that the pipe In question be tested and an expert sent to Prince Rupert to make examinations and take samples, the suggestion being that the hearing be held in Vancouver. After considerable discussion the council decided on motion of Aid. Brown and Aid. Rudderham to Inform Albert & McCaffery that the city consented to arbitration, the board to consist of three members one to be chosen by the city, an- otner Dy me iirm and tne tnird selected by the two and the hearing to be held In Prince Rupert. It will be left to the board to decide upon such examinations and tests of pipe as may be deemed necessary. Appointment or tne city s representative in arbitration was deferred until further word has been received from1 Albert & McCaffery. TRAINS TO CHANGE Effective next Monday, the dally train service to Prince Rupert will be discontinued and a three-'ralns-a-week service for the winter Inaugurated. R. steamer Prince Charles will come into service In place of the Prince George in the coastal service of Canadian National Steamships, the Prince George making but one more trip on the route. The Charles will operate on the same schedule as the George except that northbound from here on Saturday afternoon she will make calls at Anyox and Stewart instead of Ketchikan and Stewart. The twice a week service will be maintained until the New Year at least. Arrangements have been completed for a special Christmas sailing from here to Vancouver-for the benefit of school teachers and others who desire to go south. In order that, this may be done, the Prince Rupert will be held from her regular sailing hour at 10 p.m. Thursday night to 6 p.m. Friday, December 20. Satisfactory Sum Realized by Sale of Poppies Here The satisfactory sum of $253.30, including $161.65 collected by the Imperial Order. Daughters of the Empire, in street tagging on Saturday. $58.65 collected In the schools, and $33 taken at the Armistice Day banquet on Monday, was realized by the sale of popples this year for the Canadian Legion. Rt. Hon. W, L. Mackenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada, was among those upon whom a poppy was pinned bn Saturday afternoon by the local girls. Shower Tea For Anglican Bazaar Affair Yesterday Afternoon Successful Despite Inclement Weather A shower tea In aid of the annual bazaar which will be held tomorrow took place yesterday afternoon In St. Andrew's Anglican Cathedral Hall under the auspices of the Woman's Auxiliary. Despite very inclement weather, the affair was successful and many donations were received. Mrs. E. W. Tucker had charce of the tea tables and was assisted by Mrs. V. C. Asplnall, Mrs. K. A. Rood and Mrs. Malcolm Campbell. Donations were received by Mrs. George Rorle, Mrs. C. F. Kemp and Mrs. C. V. EvHt. It was a very quiet ceremony and among those in attendance was Miss Lillian Lowe of this city. Mr. and Mrst Cormier will reside In Seattle. The bride has lived here for many years and is very well known and popular. She was formerly accountant for the Rupert Table Supply Co. and more recently had been identified with the office of the Pioneer Laundry. At the residence of Sam Olsen, Jap Inlet, on Hallowe'en night, was held the birthday anniversary of A. E. Allen, the grand old man of Jap Inlet who now resides at Kam-loops. Mr. Olsen, who presided, said Mr. Allen was now 82 years old, and from what he knew of him, he would not be surprised If he lived to be the oldest man In Canada. Mr. Allen had the distinction of having been the oldest resident in Jap Inlet. He also had the further distinction of having been our most popular one. He referred to Mr. Allen's great knowledge of numbers, their history and meaning, especially as to cube root, at which Mr. Allen excelled and was unbeatable.
