There has been some little criticism of the school bylaw regard to the cost. It is shown, however, by the city hall officials that for a permanent building they may issue thirty or forty year whereas a wooden structure would have to be paid for in bonds, in ten years and the annual payments would be heavier than for the permanent building. Prince Rupert should begin to put in permanent roads and buildings, something that can be depended on for many to come and that can be shown to visitors with pride. If we are always going to have shacks here we should make up our minds to live in a shacktown and enjoy it. If, however, want to build a stable city we must follow the example of some are not afraid to invest in concrete business years we of our citizens who blocks. Increasing Shipments On the Railway. It is good news that the business of the port is increasing as told in this paper yesterday. The growth of business on the railway means the building up of the town. If the railway is prosperous the port will be prosperous. The more business comes here the sooner will the city grow and the district develop and the sooner shall we get those facilities which other enjoy. A city is nof built in a day. It is much to be desired that the hydro-electric proposal, it comes, will prove to be such as the citizens can endorse, for its coming here means more business and more business means Visitors who come here often turn up their noses at the plank roads, the immature buildings, and the gereral unfinished appearance of the town, but gradually we shal! change all that. The building which has been in progress recently will add much to the general effect. Jimmie Robinson and His Beautiful Brogue. Anyone who wishes to enjoy a real brogue and a lively half hour should not fail to listen to Sgt. Major Jimmie Robinson in ~he Council Chamber this evening. It ioolish to say he is Irish, but he is. However his subject is “Repatriation,” Home Rule. Major Robertson will also say a few words on the Returned Soldiers’ Commission and the mayor will preside.
