Over sixty per cent of the ratepayers of Prince Rupert who) voted on the Bylaws yesterday endorsed the project of raising | $150,000 for the erection of a new permanent school building on! Acropolis Hill. There was some strong opposition to it and most | ef those who opposed did so, doubtless, from conscientious) motives. They feared that we were spending too much money | in one direction. Those who supported believed with The News that the cause of the children is paramount. They saw no serious obstacle in} the young folks having to climb the hill once or twice each day,/ even in bad weather. We congratulate the people of Prince Rupert on having de-| cided for a policy of permanency and progress. When the schoo!) is built we shall have at least one building that should stand the ravages of time. It will show that the people of the city, those| who pay the bills, have faith in the future of the place and in the! children who are to live here. ! There was the best of feeling among those who were sup- porting or opposing the bylaw. That is the only way to condu: the business of the city or country. We cannot agree, of course, | but we can agree to differ. There will be other questions of | public import come up for decision from time to time and if we! ean settle them amicably and without bitterness we shall be in| a position to get results. We are all shareholders in a big con- | eern, the community. Each one thinks the business should be | Wate 55216 suid sans > m. conducted in a certain manner. Why fight over it? Amicable — for Skidegate, Queen Charlotte strife is invigorating, but bitterness spells death. Seeeeceseeeeeee eens City and Lower Island points: Churches Suffer #/ Fortnightly. They are the World Trade Club of San Francisco and the Metric Association of New York. They have a good cause as it must be to the advantage of any com- munity to cast aside a poor system and introduce a better in its place. The metric system is already in use in a good many countries and some of which are not as tar advanced in a good many re- spects as this country.
