She calls it Economy Butter, and it is well named, consider- ing the quantity she gets, and the low cost of the extra butter. To half a pound of butter add one SMALL tin of Pacific Milk, in which has been dis- solved a small pinch of baking soda. Whip ‘till the butter has all been taken up and allow to set gradually in a cool place. It makes almost a pound of butter—-good butter, too. Many will thank Mrs. Forbes for her kindness, as we do. ONGSALE AT Fred Stork’s Hardware SECOND AVENUE Phone Black 114 ‘WILL INVESTIGATE MUNICIPAL FINANCE Hon. John Hart Taking Steps to Get into Closer Touch With Problem. delegations Municipal galore have appeared before the Provin- cial Cabinet during the last two years, virtually demanding legis- lation towards providing” addi- tional sources of municipal revenue, says the Victoria Times. Not a little persuasion has been employed to convinee the Govern- ment that it should share some of its revenue with the municipali- ties. Enterprises launched in boom times, when a new country’s natural optimism has occasional- ly dwarfed better judgment, have gradually reacted with the inevit- able result. While this has been true of municipalities, it was also true of the government of the province, although in the latt case the rehabilitation of provin- cial credit has proceeded apace during the last eighteen months. Nevertheless, British Columbia's finances have not yet recuperated sufficiently to permit of the ex- tension of relief from the publie treasyiry to the municipalities. Questionnaire Issued. On this aceount, arid in pur- suance of his promise made some time ago to investigate the whole subject of municipal financing, the Hon. John Hart, Minister of Finance, has prepared a form of questionnaire which is to be sent to every municipality in the province. In brief, the form is designed to ask for every conceivable finan. cial detail related to the govern- ment of each individual muni- cipality. With the form will go a request that the questionnaire be filled up and returned to Mr. Hart on or before September 15. It is then the Minister's intention to give due notice of sittings which will be held in the cities of Vancouver and Victoria during the month of October at whic! representatives from every muni- cipality in the Province of British Columbia will be permitted to plead the case of his own *om- munity.
