On account of the increased mining activities for the past year around Prince Rupert, the exhibits at the Fall Fair this year will be more than Many of the leading mines have samples and interesting. owners of promised to send specimens of ores as they are taken from the ground, The displays from the larger companies operating will be very instructive for those who have never seen mining on a large commercial seale. The finished product will be siiown in all stages of refinement, Stewart and Anyox products will be especially edu- cative along these lines. Many of the outside points who have merely started in on a small scale have promised to send samples of what can be mined near at hand. Surf Inlet mines will likely send a suffieient quan- tity of the crude stuff with all the necessary data to give the or- dinary public some idea of the composition of the rock and dirt. The following points have prom- ised to send displays and the fair secretary is confident that the aggregation of minerals to be presented here will rival the col- lection at the recent Mining Gon- vention in Vancouver: Alice Arm, Hazeiton, Usk, Queen Charlotte Islands and Terrace. i Sport Briefs Babe Ruth, according to dis- patches received on Saturday, has equalled the home run record by swatting his 25th for this season. If he gets another before the sea- son closes he will have broken all previous records. ° . . -The James Bay Athletic Asso- ciation recently bought the boat Bluebird -which is of the high speed type and attains a rate of {8 knots per hour. The boat will be used for coaching pur- poses. The Bluebird is the fastest boat in Victoria waters and is driven by a 40 horse power Con- tinental motor car engine. * > * Tonight the St. Andrew's So. ciety football team plays the Grand Trunk team for the last time in the league series. In the last match the Scotchmen were able to count victory, but their less fortunate rivals are out to make a name for themselves this evening. It is expected that the usual players will be on the line- up with a few minor changes in the half and forward lines. A shorter playing time will likely be set by the refegee as the even- ings are now getting shorter and the actual daylight at the disposal of the players is not very long. U. 8. Both were beautiful days for climbing and the ascent of the mountains at the rear of the townsite could be made in comparative ease ex. cept for the muddy spots in the path. A number went to the top and had a good look at the coun- try areund whilst others just went up a short distance and took a luneh witb them and spent the afternoon among the trees. There are still lofs of blue berries and huckleberries on the mountain sides and the more industrious outdoor enthusiasts took pails with them and were amply repaid for their efforts.
