DURING WEXT WEEK Five Dollar Prize for Best Verse Sent in Dealing With Local Topic. pectmnans The Daily News tras decided to hold a fitierick contest. For the Dest effort duritge ifext week a prize of five dollars will be awarded. It is Suggested that tte ‘vse shall deal with Idcal suv- jeets, stich as the fair, the hunt- ing season, the visitors, the ship- building, the condition of the City, the streets, the schools, the Sait Lakes, the sports, or anything local or topieal-rather than gen- eral. In order to give possible con- tributors some idea what was wanted, a local amateur aspiring poet was approached with a re- quest for one or two samples of verses such as those which ‘niight be sent in by possible contribut- ors. He wrote the following and sent them in saying that he woulc make no charge for his effort as hé considered it was sufficient re- ward to be able to inflict the peo ple of this city, against whom he apparently bears a grudge, wit! the verses. He says he will not be a competitor in the contest but he will watch with interest Wheth- fr anyone is able to write any- thing better.
