ENGLISHMEN VICTORIOUS Win at Football Over the Callies by Score of Three to One. Sons of England 3, Callies 1, that was the score in the final of the exhibition games played last night on the Athletic grounds. Tt was a great victory. The Sons may play 2 poor game occasion- ally against other teams, but they always give of their best against the Scots, and they did it last night. They played the dashing, swinging type of feetball which viys better than the more meth odical methods of the which are more adapted to velvety turf. Plavin Secotsmen down Phas hill in the first half gave the but the Englishmen erossed over with a lead of one goal, from a breakaway by Perey Tink Bennett, the Callie centre, was too well marked to be effec- scoring tive and was a trifle wild in his shooting. In the second half a penalty kick against Jim Currie was con verted by Tinker added cone more with a good shot which Glapperton stopped but did not clear. Bennett reduced the idverse usajority with a good ef- fort, but in good work by Tommy Black the whistle blew with England triumpianet. For the winners the out-! n ing players Tinker, Kobin- son and Kelsey. Percy plays good football and always knows where the goal is. Robinson and Kelsey worked untiriagly and for an old Robinson, and spite of some were timer at the game the latter seemed the sprightliest man on the field. The losers were rather off color. Their best men were rrobably Geordie Abbott at half, and Tom Biack and Harry Foote forward. A good crowd attended the game and got their reward in clean and exciting footbaii. Ge< Russell refereed in an effective manner. The teams were: Sons of England—Judge; Wear- mouth and Darten; D. Robinson, Kelsey and Wells; Davis, Howe, Tinker, Robinson and Tabrum. Callies——Clapperton, Currie and Davie; Sellars; Abbott and Mur- ray; Black, Main, Bennett, Wig- «ins and Foote. Glasses for Passenger on Ship Sent From Seattie and Dropped Aboard Veseel. Victoria, Sept. 26.—In the ex- citement of departure from Se- attle aboard the N. Y. K. liner Suwa Maru a well known lady © the Queen City had the misfortune to drop her glasses overboard and faced the prospect of considerable inconvenience during the trans- Pacific passage. The loss was noticed by the lady's friends on the deck and prompt steps were taken to replace the glasses by wiring the prescription to Victoria in the hope that the order could be filled before the Suwa's de- parture from this port on her outward trip to the Far Bast. Within three hours the new glasses were available and were delivered at the Outer Docks as the liner drew alongside. [ft was then learned, however, that the ‘prescription had also been filled at Seattle and dispatehed to | outbound ship by seaplane. Ship Overtaken. The Boeing seaplane = over- hauled the Suwa Maru off Port Townsend and manoeuvred aloft lo drop the package which had been carefully wrapped in severa! layers of cotton batten, on the deck of the liner. Expectantly the passengers aboard the ship watched the operations of the air- man, who was doing his level best to bomb the liner. Fished Out of Sea. When dead overhead the weighted package was dropped, but evidentiy the speed of the the pilot of the seaplane, for the precious spectacles missed the objective and fel! harmlessly into the sea. Not to be outdone, the air pilot cireled around and. drop- ping a grappling hook, succeeded in pieking up the floating pack- age, and at the next attempt the eyeglasses were safely delivered aboard the ship, The opportunity was not overlooked by the movie operators of the Universal Film Company, who were travelling to the Orient aboard the Suwa Maru.
