Beynon of Victoria. W. Beynon, of Victoria, has been investigating the native crved stone that was discovered recently at Kispiox. It was due up by some workmen who were i making a road and thrown to en side with the rest of the dirt am rock. A native woman who was pessing saw il and told her peo- pie about it and they came with horse and rig and took it with- out saying anything. Mr. Beynon says that there is withing «prehistoric about — the stone. It is the crest of the Git sen tribe of Indians and on one of the totems at Kispiox is for 1@ same emblem. it was a rather difficult matter ‘ooking up the history of the stone. Mr. Beynon visited thr listrict and took no apparent in- rest in the new fipd. He wen! to the older people and talked to them about their early history rnd traditions and got them to sing their dirge songs in whic! e traditions of the tribes are re counted. In“some of these dirge songs the two stones are men- med, the crest, the history of hich he was imvestigating and ihe big stone on which the slave- were sacrificed, Mr. Beynon says that the stone w ll be the excuse for a good many celebrations during the coming winter and the village possessing it will come in for a good mans presents, and much honor. That is the chief reason why they re- fuse to part with it. It was brought to its present site whe: the Indians migrated years ago and is pribably years old, several hundred GOES SOUTH FROM PRINCE GEORGE ON COLLECTING EXPEDITION Wim, the Rindsfoos, president of Brunson Savings and Loan Co., and K.
