It tells of a girl of the tenements, out of work, who invents a lurid past for herself in order to qualify for a place as a dancer in a notorious roadhouse. “Now that you've got-it, what are you going to do with it?” in Rube Goldberg's classis phrase. Little Mary MeGuire’s imaginary misdeeds won her the job, but they also bring her a flood of un- desired and undesirable suitors and one who comes in neither category. How she escapes from the tide and catches the fish in it—if we may be permitted the liberty of calling a movie hero a fish—-forms the story of “The De- licious Little Devil.” ’ ‘WILLIAM HART IS AT WESTHOLME THEATRE William 8. Hart, the map who is such a favorite with Prince Rupert audiences, will be seen again tonight at the Westholme | Theatre in “Breed of Men.” This is another of those pictures of a day that is fast disappearing. It is a story of the West and is full of life and vigor. VEGETABLES A SPECIALTY Delivery Prompt Attention In the Letter Box SUNDAY CONCERTS @ ~--=-@ o_—- Editor The News :— The enterprise of our local Symphony Orchestra in startin high class Sunday evening con- certs is deserving of the com- mendation and practical support of the whole community. The complete laek in this city ,hither- to, of any legitimate means of desirable mental recreation on Sunday evenings had been com- mented upon many a time and oft, alike by the resident citizens and the “strangers within our gates.” It would be hard to imagine a more appropriate and beneficial way of spending an hour or two at the close of the Day of Rest, after its religious domestic, and social amenities have been ob- served, than in listening to good music efficiently rendered. This is not merely recreation; it is also an education and an inspira- tion, and can hardly fail to have an elevating influence on “those who are exercised thereby.” There is too much of the mundane and too little of the musical in our hum-drum lives, and any agency that will reduce the one and in- crease the other is good and meri- torious. To help in this direction is the one and only object of the Symphony Orchestra, and if the appreciation of the public is at ail proportionate to the value, importance, and diffieulty of this work there will be an overflowing house at the opening concert next Bunday night. J. FPF. MAGUIRE LEGAL BUT UNJUST Editor The News:— In your account of the Council meeting in regard to my letters, you say I find fault with the granting of licenses to the Pro- vincial and Nora on the ground thet they were not complying with the regulations. I beg that you will correct this statement. The Provincial and Nora are comply- « with the regulations and | contend that the Narbethong 1s also equipped to comply with them. I find fault with the inspector for stopping the Narbethong and then prove my point that the summer equipment is all that Is required, At any rate the Narbe- iong should have been given the same privilege of complying with the regulations as the Provincial. As this was not done the actions of the inspector were illegal. HOOMES K. FREEMAN. Ss. M.
