In diseussing the matter of hospital rates for private rooms, Dr. Kergin explained that raising the rates for the rooms would work a hardship on many who ‘had absolujely no conveniences at home for maternity cases yet who could Kot afford to pay the inereased rate. There were only two of the lower priced rooms, but eight at the higher price. He thought the revenue should be raised from the city or the prov- ince. Mere Than Right. W. E. Williams agreed that they were charging more than was right, but they had approach- ed the City Council on the matter of an extra grant and while it was agreed that the city should pay up their indebtedness to the in- stitution the estimates had al- ready been made up and no extra grant could be expected this year. He thought it was a shame to charge the rates they did. The hospital should be financed by the city and the Government. The latter had done its share but the vity had not. He thought that next year if the city would pay a per capita of 65c. they couid jreak even. The resolution recommending the lower rates was moved by Dr. Kergin and seconded by L. W. Patmore and carried unanimously. \ rather jong fol- lowed in regard {o raising funds in the city and it was finally de- cided, on the motion of Judge discussion fYoung, seconded by D. G. In the Letter Box SUNDAY CONCERTS eo ~—-—-6 ~~ To the Editor :— I see by your paper today that my letter which you published a couple of days ago has brought forth a reply signed “Uhristian,” but surely if he is a true Christian he is not “ashamed of the faith that is in him,” but would declare his name even though it should lead to the martyr’s stake. Of course if he happens to be a she, her modesty is natural, and none of us would like to see her unduly expose herself before “an army of Sabbath breakers,’ composed of mere men like J. F. I am glad to see, sir, that you published the letter of our worthy Christian, beeause there are many children reading your valuable paper daily, that may be led astray as to the principles of true Whristianity on reading that letter. In conclusion, - it proves your broadmindedness, but I sincerely 80 warn you that it alone cannot make you a Christian; yet, it is a fine stepping stone for a true and faithful belief in our mereci- ful Creator, that will carry you through without a nom-de-plume.
