PREPARATION FOR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Committee Meeting Last night in Board of Trade Rooms With View to Organizing Last night there was a meeting of the general committee having in hand the preliminaries for the organization of an athletic asso riation in this city. The gather- ing took place in the Board of Trade rooms with M. P, McCaffery in the chair. The committee reported some progress since the last meeting and it was decided to appoint several committees to secure further data and to meet again next Tuesday evening in the Board of Trade rooms H. 8. Wallace, W. J. Nicholl and }H. F. Pullen were appointed a | committee to secure an estimate of the cost of making dressing rooms and shower baths in the basement or some other suitabl part of the Agricultural Building. The subscription committee, headed by W. BE, Williseroft, will provide an estimate of the cost of equipment. They consist of, in addition to the chairman, Messrs. Johnston, Westaway, Brady, Self, Clementson, Fisher, Darton and Carmichael, A committee on organization which will recommend officers for the permanent organization is composed of J. D, McAuley, H.F, Wearmouth and Mr, Clementson. It is expected that each com- mittee will get busy at once and that by next Tuesday it may be possible to get right to work so that no time maybe lost in mak_ ing use of the building. 1)| SOLDIERS NEED NOT PAY ROAD TAX BUT * The report of the Finance Com- nmiittee in regard to the payment of road taxes by returned soldiers was adopted. The report pro- vided that neturned soldiers would not be asked to pay their two dollars for road tax, but that they would not be able to vole unless they had paid this tax or had paid bther municipal taxes. City Clerk Woods explained in the matter of voting that the sol- diers would have to prove that they had paid municipal] taxes before thein names went on the voters’ list. The tax would be re- funded to the wives or some rep- resentative of the claimant with- out them having to appear per- sonally at the city hall.
