THE DAILY NEW PAGE FIV2 TOWN MEET AT TERRACE CLASSIFIED ADVERTTS EMENTS - FOR SALE, FOR RENT, LOST & FOUND Village CJub Presents Report THIS IS THE PAGE WHICH MOST PEOPLE READ BECAUSE IT IS FULL OF HUMAutf : BUSINESS INTEREST TO YOUNG AND OLD. Covering Fast Two Years i TERRACE, Jan. 31. A town' uKM'flng was held in the Legioa Hall on Wednesday, J. K. Gordon presiding over a good attendance. The clerk to the municipality reported on the work done - during the m put two years and the eonniatforien ; were thanked lor their efforts Several matters of kxxl lwpor-tunre were discussed and the commissioners were asked to take action in respect of the disposal of Curbxge and night soli and the in-frp( "Uon of chimneys. The commissioners were also asked to institute a volunteer fire-f ighting brigade. The report of the clerk, H. Halll-well was as follows: I have been asked to provide a brief statement of the work ac-rotnplished by the commissioners nre the incorporation of the village, which took place In December 1927. Work has been done along many fields of endeavor and It most be obvious to all that mere baa bees ;u cumplished than would have been the case if we Mad not had heme rule. First of all, the comshleskmera had to apply themselves to the task .f setting up the machinery of administration, a business, which. In itself, involved quite a considerable amount of thought and eonaidera-The necessary office equipment had to be installed, the necessary stationery designed and provided and the necessary bylaws nought out and adopted. Bylaws to the number of 17 have been en-ted by the eotmiKlon up to the present time, each requiring a great deal of careful attention, in order to meet the terms of the neabling art, and also the requirements o the local situation. Koaci repair work has absorbed r arly $2000 during the two years, and it is anticipated that the mun-ioi oa) roads will be better tMs year than ever before. During the past vcar about 800 loads of gravel were put cm the municipal roads and the pood effect of this should show up. i A notable Improvement was effected by the widening of the roadway to Kalum Street between the police station and Smith's garage. "The administration of the parks has come into the hands of the Commissi oners and the admmlstim- j uon of the public health act has just recently been placed upon their shoulders. - Street Repair An attempt was made to remedy the condition ef Kalum Street near the park during flood tines by placing a culvert under Hie roadway, and, though net entirely adequate, this has had a very beneficial effect. Two or three sections of sidewalks have been put down to the greater comfort of residents and visitors. "During the past year the greatest effort of the wmnisskiners has bees in connection with the acquirement and development of the loaal water system. After long and intricate dealtoas with the water rlghta branch the municipality at last received a conditional licence for the storage, distribution and sale of water, and steps were at once taken to Improve the water supply, a well was dug and an else-trie pump installed, and, though many people did not notice it, for five or six weeks during last sum- vne people or Terrace rata a water supply wbieli but for this they would not have had. The munlcl-1 pality is bound by the terms of its licence to instal a complete water system within a limited period, and when this is accomplished the domestic supply should be rwsssflftbly assured. "Various other matters have been attended to and the prestige of the village has unquestionably been raised as a result of lis Incorporation."
