Member of Audit Bureau of Circulations DAILY EDITION Tuesday. Dee. 26, 132 BUILDING CARS The C. P. R. is building cars for use on their-. Vancouver Island road. Thev are beintr turned out at the Victoria sbxDS and are said to be very satisfactory. Yesterday we imTherispeji(ulS owned' ' by the'.'Canadian National Railways at Prince Rupert. Not only is there a wood working plant but all the facilities for the iron work. At various times it has been suggested that the local shipyard should be utilized for car building but nothing in that line has been done here. Instead the work is done at the shops in the east or on the prairies where weather conditions are not as well suited to winter work of that kind. Now that thte C. P. R. has led the way in getting work done in British Columbia, possibly the C. N. R. may follow RADIO INTERFERENCE Every autumn there is radio interference and it is f ounr; necessary to trace down the trouble and try to have it eliminated This fall has been no exception tp the rule. Naturally the new xnfer coming from Falls River is beinp blamed because it is the one important event that most people think is likely w cmise the trouble. Possibly it is the offender but, there are other offenders. This is the season of the year when furnaces go into operation and other electrical appliances are used. Shop window decorations often cause trouble. New vacuum cleaners and sewing ma- cntaes ana au tne nundrea ana one new electrical appliances are sources of dancer to the best receDtion. We cannot interfere with the power coming from Falls River or with the extension of the use of electrical ap- EHances but usually if the trouble is located it can either e removed or ameliorated. Finding the source of trouble is the chief difficulty. This takes time and skill. Patience is required. Usually late in the evening reception is better than early in the evening due to some cause not known. As the number of radio owners increases the pressure for the removal of interference is bound to become stronger. BUYING A RADIO Recent published letters seem to indicate that radio reception is not sufficiently good in Prince Rupert to warrant investing in an instrument. That is a mistake. This fall there have been weeks of excellent reception but no radio owner must expect to get good results every evening. There are always noisy times and blank times but the good reception evenings make up for all the bad ones. Very few persons who have once become radio fans feel that they would like to be without an instrument to bring them the wonderful music that often comes to them over the air. The Letter Box RADIO TROUBLES Editor, Daily titftu: Referring to the letter from the Manager of the Northern B. C. Power Co. Ltd., re radio tnterefeT-ence in last night's paper. As one of the signers of the first THE iSAfLV NEWS Tuesday. Decent. "Disgusted dlp Owners" letter, I note there was no mention made in this letter, of the Northern D.C. Power Co., but something has occurred during the past two weeks to upset 'radio reception in this city a$d" It' W not caused by any appltehces or anyUiiifg1' on the premises of the people complaining, as the trouble is spread over the entire ctly. No mention' was' made of the transmission line, but, I think it would be aa well to cheek up the sub-station at Cow say, as there is Just a possibility' of the trouble originating front that source. It is a fact that after the lights went out last Wednesday evening and again came on, we were back again to our old time reception without this new excessive noise. It Is an easy matter to report Interference, but the person you are reporting it to generally assumes the defensive and puts th? jonus of . providing the trouhle onjlty" will soon be an acr.v the complainant, who has not thj : facti so that we may be ah I necessary . trouble finding instruments to definitely locate the cause jof the interference. I I note, the Manager of the Nor-; them B. p., Power Co.. states that , there is trouble that has not been i 'run down yet and that every ef 'ort will be" made until this lnteri ference Is run down and I hope that his "unqualified satisfaction to our customers and the commun reception, at any rate,,-as we ma nave prevlus to tv. ago.
