CANADIANS FOR GOVERNORS While it does not make much difference to the country who is the governor general or to the provinces who are the lieutenant governors, we are rather inclined to favor the idea of Canadians being appointed. We know that there is considerable difference of opinion in regard to this. It is a matter of sentiment. A great many neonle who live in Canada are not yet really Canadians. Their sympathies are elsewhere. We do not see how it can be otherwise. The next generation will feel differently about these matters. They will be Canadians if they are given a Cana dian education. r; The tendency of the day is against any but Canadians participating in any -.degree an the government of the country. This means Canadians either born or naturalized. SEVERE HANDICAP Not having road connection vjthtthe outside is a.sevtfr handicap to Prince Rupert. It is alrhtfst impossible tokF-suade automobile parties to come through to the city from Hazelton owing to the heavy freight charge. To expect tourists to pay forty dollars each way in order to visit Prince Rupert is just a little too much even for an optimist. Until the road is through we might as well give up the idea and devote our efforts in other directions. There is a proposal coming before the Board of Trade at its next meeting to devote a considerable sum of its publicity money to advertising the city in a booklet distributed chiefly among tourists wno visit British Columbia in their own cars. This would seem like wasted effort. If the road were through, it would be quite a different matter. The city contributes to this publicity fund of the board and just now it if considering the possibility of having to cut off even some of the donations which were placed in the estimates earlier in the year. Under these conditipn it seems hardly consistent to bonus a southern publication. 1 1 J 1! Notable among them was Viggo Klhl's piano recital of last Saturday. ,It was Mr. Klhl's first recital in several years and he chose a program that was (Impressively compounded of im portant works." The report titra went on to 'tell of these in detail. Prince Rupert gets only occasional opportunities to bear interpretations of the classic and this season seems likely to be one of the best of them.
