Despatch took a long lead in the two-nme series for the Hanson Cup last evenlm; when, in the first match, the sailor footbul-krs overwhelmed local exponents of the soccer game by a scon of 4 to 1 In spite. of the rain, a crowd of about one hundred enthusiastic fans was on hand to witness the match which was well played. The first goal uf the rame was scored by Watson for Prince Rupert and the teams crossed ovc- at the end of the first half with the standing 3 to 1 for tho warship. The second half was fwtured ty tifht play and Prince Rupert, al though unable to score itself, succeeded in holding the sailors to a single tally. The ownership of the Hanson Cup for the coming year will be decided by total points in this serV-i and the second game will be played tomorrow evening. Kelly has been named as trainer of the local team. CELEBRATION AT PREMIER Olof Hanson Was Entrant in Hundred Yard Dash STEWART. July 24 : Premier's annual sports and celebration held at the mine camp on Saturday were easily the most successful ever sponsored by the Community Club, and In point of attendance the event far surpassed any held in previous years. Wonderful weather attended the proceeding which included running, jumping, tennis, mucking and drilling contests, putting the shot, catching the greasy pig, and many other events for both sexes, adults and children. A feature of the men's 100-yard dash was the entry of Olof Hanson, Liberal candidate for Skeena riding. Mr. Hanson did not come In the money but put una fine race considering his years numbered twice as many as the next oldest competitor. The dance in the evening, as usual, was the big feature of the celebration. This year the huge hall had been transformed to represent ,the "big top" of a circus, the centre sfMce or ring" being reserved for dancing and the outside part being taken up by the familiar circus side-shows, try-your-luek booths, and refreshment stands, all of which did a rushing business. Even the come-on ballyhoo of the circus barker was loudly in evidence. Premier's newly-formed orchestra fur nlshed peppy music all through the evening. HAS DIED Thomas Duggan, Who Expired in Montreal, Was Close Friend of Paddy Harmon of Chicago MONTREAL, July 24: Thomas Duggan, prominent sports promoter, who played a leading role In hockey and race track activities in Canada and the United States, died here sudednly at the age of 48. He was a close friend of Paddy Harmon, Chicago sports promoter, who was killed on Tuesday.
