A. big construction prqgram is to be put in force and it is expected an announcement will be made before long as to the Government's attitude toward the western outlet of the Peace lliver. While nothing definite in, regard to the port to be used is thought possible this year, there will be undoubtedly a general announcement stating that the Government is prepared to go ahead just as soon as all necessary data is available in regard to routes and costs. It is the general opinion that the C.P.R. and C.N.R. will collaborate in the work and that the new line will be owned and operated jointly. This will necessitate giving the C.P.R. right of way into Prince Rupert, even if a southern' port be chosen as the chief objective of the line. i It takes an expert to know when to lead the ace and , hold the jack. ' STRONG OPPOSITION DESIRABLE The reports of the doings of the Legislature since the opening indicate to everyone the desirability of a strong opposition. There has to be a check upon any government that takes office and the longer a party has oeen out of power, the more it needs watching when it takes office. When fdshibntyoints.the'wayit'tal&s a brave woman to refuse to travel! ' KNOCKERS' ROLL PROPOSED A proposal has been made, which may be brought before the Board of Trade or some other public or semi-public body, to establish a "Knockers' Roll" of men and women who although making their living in Prince Rupert persistently knock the town. The idea is to make this roll public and if the knocking continues; to take steps to have the knocker removed from the city. Visitors from the outside all speak of the number of people they hear telling how bad things are and how they would like to get away. The object of the Anti-Knockers' Club will be to hasten the time when they go and to try to see that the going does not mean a promotion. It is pointed out that in the past such pressure has been brought to bear, even upon men in such high positions as managers of banks, whose departure has hastened because they did not have a gQod word to say of the city. The protests were but mild because of the social position of the men, but if the new organization gets under way, as is proposed, it is said no quarter will be given to any offenders. We should all be patient with fools. Who can tell how long before before we might want someone to be patient with us. ! 'J C .1 ' ,- ,.. ' f - i -i ' . J ' f ; . ; . V . , . ..
