Yesterday By Coroner's Jury Was Warned of Difficulties STEWART, Feb. 21 :- Death from exhaustion was the verdict brought in by a coroner's jury here last night in an enquiry into the death of Harold Beaton, 22 year old son of Wellington Beaton of Vancouver, head of Beaton ( and president of the Georgia River Gold Mines. On Tuesday of this week Harold Beaton was found dead on t in trail between the beach and mine camps of the Georgia River mine, aparently having lost one of his snow shoes and finally giving in to exhaustion about a mile and a ohalf from the beach camp. Seeing tracks of a man's shoes he followed them and found Beaton lying dead under a spruce tree. Appar ently he had tried to negotiate a creek crossing in the dark and lost one of his snowshoes and finally dropped from sheer exhaustion. Bits of string found along the trail also indicated that he had been having trouble with his snowshoes and was trying to bind them more securely to his feet. The trail from the beach to the Oeorgla River Oold Mines is a tough one at any season and is rioublv so now with the recent heavy snowfalls and rain in this district. Georgia River Is about 18 miles down the Portland Canal from Stewart. The body Is now in Stewart awaiUng the arrival of Wellington Beaton who Is due to reach Prince Rupert Saturday ana como w Stewart by special boat. Besides his father, Harold Beaton is survived by his wife to whom he has been m.rriMi two vears and a young child. His mother died last year.
