Renewed interest is being taken in what was once known as the Dunsmuir mine up the Ecstall Rivef which was examined this week by two engineers! This property was staked many years ago and held by the Dunsmuir Estate. TTwico the Granby Company had it under bond , and each time released it. Now it is reported that the same company 1 !i. 1... 1 1 -. 1 ll A. 11- fi 1 1 A 1 1 iius ji unuer uonu again anu mat tne uonsoijaaiea nas a large group of claims surrounding the original property. The property was thoroughly examined years ago by government engineers and the ore was found to carry something like three per cent of copper with a very high percentage of sulphur and iron. The reason it was not worked was because of the difficulty at that time of utilizing the sulphur and iron, the demand being only for copper. At Anyox in the old Hidden Creek mine they worked profitably copper ore carrying only one half to three quarters of one per cent copper. But that was easy to separate. Accordng to former Anyox superintendents it would take a very-costly plant to handle the Ecstall ore. There is plemyltfit arid it is readily accessible. The only difficulty is the complexity of the ore. uShCialldlthle"Ecstairmine' tret into oneratinn .it would hn one of 'tfce' biggest things that could happen to this part of me country. . RRITISH.SUCCESSION DUTIES ' ' shnccesgion duties are abnormally high and i'"'"'' C'yl u Jy-unan uies in cngiana, nan oi nis wealth isiaM by the state, the other half going to his heirs'. That is looked upon by some people a3 confiscation but it is probably a very righteous law. The only difficulty is that it is apt to injure the country which enforces it. While the passing of property from father to son has always been looked upon as the proper procedure, there is a school of thought arising in the world which objects to wealth being kept in a family and declares that all men should be equal in opportunity. That is a democratic view but it is difficult to work out. In choosing a new country people of wealth usually turn to one where the children will inherit their wealth and where it will not be taken by the state. That is why a wealthy person would not today choose to make his home in England. While agreeing with the Labor government in its ideal we doubt the efficacy of the legislation which if carried too far tends to defeat its own ends.
