New Wage Scale Is Allowed For Phone Workers On recommendation of the utilities committee, the city council decided last night to enter Into a new agreement with the Union of Electrical Workers In regard to wanes and working conditions tor tele phone department employees. Un der the new agreement the taotfl wage scale will be 25c a day higher bringing It Into conformity with the Vancouver scale and with that of the Power Corporation of Can-j ada here. Also provision is made whereby employees of five or more-' years' standing are given two weeks holidays with pay each year. Oth-, crwise, me agreement is similar to the one whfch has always existed. It sets the salary of the wire chief ! ut $215 per month and the wages! of journeymen and cable splicers! at $7.79 ana $8.73 per 8-nour day respectively. Overtime calls for double pay. In addition to bringing, the local scale Into conformity with that exist ins at other place, the change would give the employees incentive to give even better service to the city. Aid. Macdonald, chairman of the utilities committee, said in recommending the new schedule to the council.
