ALD. BARRIE BRINGS IN RESOLUTION TO THIS END Hefore the council meeting ad journed last night, Ald. Barric brought in a motion that the Min ister of Militia be communicated ih and that it be recommended to him that a unit of the 102nd Battalion be re-established in this eCity. He pointed out that th: battalion had been largely re- eruited in Prinee Rupert and had been called the Northern B. C. Battalion. The motion was sec onded by Ald. MeMeekin. The mayor, gave some particu lars regarding the original for mation of the gallant battalion and. felt that Prince Rupert was entitled more than any other place to hold the tlags and colors of the regiment. The battalion had originally consisted of 80 per cent northern B. C. men but after getting over- seas had been reinforced by On- tario men with the result that an Ontario city was now trying t get the re-established unit. Not only did Prinee Rupert want th: battalion but the feeling was gen eral all over the province that this city was entitled to it. Major Matthews, of the Imperial Oil Go., Vancouver, who had been an of- ficer in it, was, for one, strongly in favoy of Prince Rupert getting it. Ald was Rochester said that this a good move and Prinee Ru- pert had first claim to a re-estab lished 102nd battalion. The motion was carried unani- mously and the Minister of Militi wil] be communicated with. “SPITE FENCES” EXIST IS SUGGESTION MADE Discussion on Alderman Perry's Fence Amendment Takes Funny Turn. On Ald. Perry bringing in an amendment to the fence section in tue city bylaws, Ald. McRae in- formed him that the Board of Works already had some new regulations in view, especially regarding garage construction. They were now obtaining advice from the underwriters and other cities on these questions and he suggested that the regulation of he fence -bylaw be left to be de: with along with these others. Alderman Perry said that he was quite willing to have it dealt with in this way. There was considerable discus- sion an the matter, suggesting spite fences and neighborly dis- putes. Ald. * Kirkpatrick asked why a person could build a house ever six feet high if they could not build a fencé any higher. Mayor McClymont replied that sometimes fences were built for ether reasons than use, but houses cost too much to be built for spite. Fences sutlicient to keep people from Jooking into their neighbor's back yards would have to be perhaps fifteen ol twenty feet high and very amus- ing looking structures FORGERY CHARGE AGAINST PRISONER Marvin Alien Awaiting Trial for False Pretenses Now Further Accused.
