SENESCU Leader of the Westholme Orches- tra. is open to give Violin Lessons Phone 15, Central Hotel Miss Ruby Taylor and Parents Guests of Honor at Fare- well Affair. A very pretty farewell dance was held in the St. Andrew's Hall last night in honor of Miss Ruby Taylor, who is leaving for the east next week. About seventy of her many friends in the city gath- ered and the evening was spent in dancing to the music of the new Westholme Orchestra. At almost every dance some new innovation is adopted in the music line and last night was no exception, for Will eanifinde and J, Senescu took Lhe banjos to the able accompant- ment of Alex. Gray at the piano and “Brownie” at the drums. The floor was in excellent condition and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. : At midnight a delightful supper provided by the guests was en- joyed and during the course of the refreshments Col. MeMondie, D.8.0., made a few valedictory remarks and mentioned the teem in which not only Miss Ruby Taylor was held; but also Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, General regret would be felt in the city on the departure of such valued eitizens. A very es. artistic .scroll was presented to Miss Taylor on which was in- scribed the mames of all the guests. \At 3:15 the affair broke up with the singing of “auld. Lang Syne,” While the pretty guest of honor was. forced to the centre of th: jally circle, \All the friends un- selfishly: provided for the success of the function. “u~. ra ’ The’ Mami the’ Moon si \ SAYS: x“ idiies That itis-deelared with brazen effuontery that.aeroplang wing is being served in some of the local restaurants in place of chicken That “up” is the only word the coal operators seem to know well, when discussing prices. —— That there is more than a broken roadway at Cow Bay, judging by the way people hold their noses when they pass that way. That Pussyfoot Johnson looked like a winner when he took his little ride in good part and told the boys he was coming down to lecture to them. = . Charlie MeKiel, of the whaler Blue, told an interesting story at Victoria last week, of an experience he had had-in the summer at Nadén Harbor. A big whale had been harmpooned and was being towed in when it got under the steamer and roeked the little vessel.up and down. The craft had to turn her engines astern to baek off the eareass be- fore a second shot from the bow gun could kill the whale. Capt. MeKiel had an experience ounce before which was just as exciting when a big sperm whale eharged the Whaler and broke the rudder ¢hains ‘in the impact. ‘The mammal's head was split open.
