SHIPMENT OF POLES Totems Made One of Most Interesting Consignments Ever Shipped on CN.lt. Canada is a land of varied produce and during her young nationhood she has seen many different cargoes leave her shores, but perhaps the most unique shipment ever marketed by Canadians Is a carload of totem poles, which was shipped recently from Prince Rupert, says Canadian National Railways Magazine. The valuabla Indian relics were billed to the Museum of the American Indian, Haye Foundation, in New York City. Along the Pacific seaboard, form Prince Rupert north to Alaska, totemtsm was the prevalent form of worship among the Indians long before the white man came and totem poles are found on the sites of old native villages. The totem pole, a pole decorated with reDre- rentatlons of animals, indicates so cial standing and is assocated with religious rites. It is part of the creed of a Semi-barbarous people that the totem protects them. Anyox Tennis Club Officers For 1931 Ed. Johnson Elected. President For Comln? Year With Forbes Kydd, Secretary ANYOX.
