Nuttall Welcomed Record Congregation Last Night on Behalf of Methodists. The Methodist Church was full to the doors last night for the Seered concert. The innovation evidently was appreciated and everyone seemed well pleased with the result. Rev. T. H. Nuttall mentioned some criticism that he ad received but said that he felt sure they were right in spending a Sunday evening in that manner. e expected to have similar musi- cal services every month, the next being the Christmas song service. He criticised those who had left their. places in their own church to come there, saying that these musical nights were meant to at- tract those who did not go to church and not to bring people from other churches. Congregation Joined. The program -was first rate for an occasion of this kind. Four hymns were sung and the congre- gation joined with a zest that in- dicated a great interest in the oc- easion. The choir sang well but the male quartette was really first rate. The ladies chorus while providing enjoyable music might have been improved by the mem- bers getting closer together so that the balance and time might have been improved, Miss Pim as soloist in the anthems was 4 great success. Her voice has \wreat capabilities. | John Davie in his solos was @ treat. He was in good voice and his singing was much appreciated. Mr. Ling in the last anthem sang the solo part most acceptably. It lis to be hoped that he will be lheard often. Mr. Clapperton sang well as did also Mr. Higgins. Instrumental. Will Edmunds was the only instrumentalist, with the excep- tion of the organist. He played two selections on the cello and the instrument blended well with the organ, with most pleasing re- sults. Miss Crux at the big pipe organ played one or two selec- tions at the opening and accom- panied the singers throughout, with first nate effect. Taken as a whole this first Sunday night church concert was a great success and it must have been an inspiration to the pastor of the congregation to see his pews so well filled and to hear the people singing the old songs of praise with such enthusiasm, WHITE MEN KILLED IN U.S. RACE RIOTS (Special via G.
